Running 93 Marathons: Man Runs Route 66 to Support ALS Research
On August 29, 2026 Chicago Congressman Mike Quigley and leader of the 2021 ACT for ALS Law (IL-05) joined @NBCChicago to see a man's begin his run down Route 66 to support a cure.
Spanish distance runner Enric Casacuberta left Navy Pier in Chicago on Saturday. He's running over 25 kilometers a day down the 2,000+ mile Route 66 in support of ALS research. Congressman Quigley and Alderman Brendan Reilly joined NBC5 in supporting Enric's running start.
On Enric's mission, Quigley said: "To see someone make such an extraordinary effort and commitment, provides me hope that we can accomplish great things."
"If somebody wants to do something, they can try to prepare and they can get it done," Casacuberta told NBC5. His journey will be the equivalent to running 93 marathons.
Quigley's bill to reauthorize the ACT for ALS just passed the House. It awaits approval in the Senate.
