There Will Be No Accountability | Democrat on Trump, Putin, and Foreign Affairs
On Thursday, September 24, Chicago Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) joined @CNN International’s Jim Sciutto to discuss the aftermath of the UN General Assembly, the G20 Summit later this year, and the state of foreign affairs in the Trump 2.0 era.
On Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Quigley said “we have two leaders who don’t believe in strong control of AI at this critical point in time. The president called its threats ‘a hoax,’ they’re doing very little on climate change, [and] they’re on opposite sides of [the wars in Iran and Ukraine].”
Quigley also commented on the Trump administration inviting Putin to the G20 Summit. “What has Putin done to earn this right? He’s inflicted massive disaster on a Democratic autonomous country. He’s committed war crimes,” Quigley said. “[By inviting Putin], Trump is showing tyrants across the world that if you do something, there will be no accountability.” As Co-Chair of the Ukraine Caucus and a recent recipient of the Ukrainian Order of Merit award, the Congressman has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine and sovereign democracy abroad.
Quigley also responded to Trump’s reiterated claim that he’s going to annihilate Iran. “There are only a couple ways to do that, and one of them would be nuclear,” said Quigley. “I don’t put anything past this president when he makes outlandish statements like this.”
