Quigley Calls for Government Oversight of Rogue AI

On September 30, 2026, Chicago Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) joined @CNN's John Berman to discuss the rapid acceleration of autonomous AI and the need to regulate these models. When asked whether President Trump’s description of a “morally binding” agreement with top AI CEOs was sufficient, Quigley cautioned that corporations and bad actors need actual government guardrails to hold them accountable. “At this point in time, Congress has to act,” Quigley said. “AI has to be controlled by people, not its own systems. [Self-regulation] simply won’t be enough.” Quigley also addressed reports that a flight bound for Tel Aviv was hijacked and forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. “I don’t want to jump to any conclusion until we know the motive for this attack,” said Quigley. “There are still many questions…how did the weapon get into the cockpit?" Quigley also condemned President Trump’s recent taxpayer-funded TV ad. “This is a violation of the law.
